How can you not love pork? This week alone I've had it at least four times...as sausage...pulled on a roll...and even in a wrap today for lunch (I'm a sucker for a wrap...but that's a different post for a different time).
I have at least a half dozen friends that don't eat pork...and I'm not talking about any vegetarian friends I may have. That I can understand (to a certain extent). But the other people I'm talking about eat chicken. They eat beef. They just don't eat pork. No bacon. No sausage (unless it's turkey). No pepperoni on pizza.
Why don't they "dig on swine"? Is it becuase pigs are "filthy animals"? I honestly don't know, but I do know that one of my friends, Christy, has a disdain that defies logic. She "doesn't eat pork" but does eat bacon on her egg sandwiches and used to eat BLTs regularly in our cafeteria here at work. Interesting.
Another pork-hater I know, Liz, won't even cook it for her poor husband, John. Let the man eat pork every now and then. It's the other white meat.
I love pork because it's just so versatile...and affordable. I love to use brines, rubs and sauces on pork. I love to grill, roast, sautee or bake it. I'll serve it pulled, in chops, stir-fried or as a roast.
To quote a famous TV chef "Pork fat rules."
It just doesn't get any better than pork.
Oh...except maybe pork and a nice Pinot Noir. (Had to know I'd get wine in there somewhere, right?)

I agree. I love pork now. I used to hate pork when I was a kid but that was because it used to always be overcooked. These days we don't have to overcook it. It's safe to cook it a little pinker and juicier beacuse the fear of trichinosishas just about been stamped out. (In reality, if not in peoples' minds) I read an enlightening article in one of the food mags in the last month all about pork. (I can'r recall which one off hand, maybe Food & Wine?) I was suprised to learn that in fact it is a red meat, not a white one.
Here are a couple of interesting things:
Pork is identified in the food animal arena as a "red meat". However, the term "white meat" comes from the very successful advertising campaign of the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) on "PORK: The Other White Meat."
"Because of modern feeding practices, trichinosis is a no longer a concern. Although trichina is virtually nonexistent in pork, if it were present, it would be killed at 137 degrees F. That's well below the recommended end cooking temperature for pork, which is 160 degrees F."

I think not liking pork has something to do with being a communist?? haha, no just kidding. Or am I? ;)

My pork logic is completely rational. I don't know what you are talking about.

I was actually told by a nutritionist that Pork is not good for you to eat. I was told it is very hard to digest, and it may stay in your body for 3 or more days. Also, because your body heats your food to 98 degrees to digest it, the pork actually starts to rot in your stomach.
I know you have to be very careful with handling and cooking pork, but I do not know if this is true. I haven't seen any evidence to support or refute it.

The Christians have said that since Jesus the swine is good to eat, because Jesus made it good in his teachings. But this is all false and a shield for the Christians’ eating the divinely-prohibited flesh of the filthy swine. They even teach you that he has a poison in his flesh. They call it the trichina worm, that is only revealed under a microscope. High school children have microscope sets to see this worm in the flesh of swine. But yet they eat it. Why? Because their teacher eats it and their teacher was the slave master and his children. The white race teaches that we should obey the law of God, but they themselves disobey. And they want you to disobey the law of God. Why? Because they are the devil-opponents of righteousness and all the right laws given from the author of righteousness. They want you and me to disobey Allah’s laws, so that we will come under the curse and destruction of Almighty God, Allah, as they know they are doomed and they hope that you and I will suffer the same.

I totally agree with Gavin. Let me first say that I also used to eat (and enjoy) pork.. but now my eyes are open. I dont eat pork any more (at all, including bacon and other pork products).
This so called 'belief' that christians (wrongly) have about Jesus transforming all unclean animals into clean animals, is nothing but a lie, as can be seen by reading what Christ DID say:
Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle SHALL IN NO WISE pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least COMMANDments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (emphassis added)
Pigs were designed by God (Allah) as scavenger animals, that is why they eat anything they can get to (including their own or other animals theses, rotting meat, and maggots to name but a few). Pigs were never intended to be food for humans, that is why God (Allah) told us not to eat the swine, thousands of years ago even before Moses, (see Genesis 7:2). God (Allah) truly knows best, and gave the commandments for our own good! Please, do your own research on pork and see for yourself, you will be glad that you did.

People have been eating pork for thousands of years. If you want to hold onto foolish beliefs and lead a primative life like cavemen, go ahead, don't eat pork. But don't spread your lies about pork. It's very telling how you people believe in all of these silly fairy tales to justify your life. If I had a time machine, I would send all of you back to the 8th century because that's clearly where you belong.

Hi, I am a christian and I have sought for the answer to this one.
Firstly, yes God did give certain guidelines for eating in LEV.11, along with many other commandments for his people, including circumsion and women being unclean after childbirth etc.
I do know that pigs are scavengers, but as are goats and also chickens and rabbits, believe it or not - my rabbits eat everything that they can get their hands on.
Pigs are often kept in poor coditions where they have to sleep in their own waste and do eat it, but out of neglect by the keeper. God's original purpose was not for pigs to be kept this way. Many animals eat their own waste, rabbits have to do this for nutritional reasons.
When Christ came, He did come to fulfil the law and not to change it, however, the old testament consists of the moral law which was to set apart God's chosen people as morally upright and the laws set out to preserve the health of the people, some of which clearly dont need to be obeyed in todays society with our standards of living and levels of hygiene.
Also understand the difference between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law.
Look for examples in the bible where Jesus brings us the spirit behind the law, God loves us and there are loving reasons for our welfare that are written in the old testament as a strict letter.
The ten commandments for example, Do not commit adulery.... simple? Jesus said that whoever even so much as looks at another with lust has committed adultery in their HEART.
What about murder? Ever broken that one?
Jesus said that whoever hates another has actually murdered in his HEART.
Its a heart matter.
I believe that when Jesus came he taught us that what we put in our bodies (mouth) does not make us unclean, but that what comes out will of our mouth determines our cleanliness.
We are also judged acording to the light we receive, so if you truely feel that God does not want you to eat anything then dont eat it.
The bible also tells us not to allow food to cause divides. Read Romans 14, Genesis 9:3, Gal.5:1-6, 1 corinthians.8:8-9, Acts 10:9-16,
Matthew 15:10-11, Mark 7:18-23 and make your own mind up as to what God is saying to you.
Peace and God's blessings to you all. xxxx

YOU BETTER NOT BE EATING PORK!
Posted by: John Haugan | September 13, 2007 at 01:23 AM
I'm a little late but this is an interesting discussion.
I won't comment on what I believe to be God's thoughts on this, but the reality of this issue needs to be realized. I was raised with Southern cooking--lots and lots of pork in every which way. Not long ago, one of my cousins took a job in a slaughter house for swine. She said that the pig, because of the way it digests its own food, literally--begins to rot from the moment its killed. By the time you get it, regardless of how it looks--its rotting.
She never touched pork again.

Wow. This is all so interesting.. as I'm chowing down some fried pork chops. YUM

Pork is the only food sive ever known to make mens seamen taste horrible....
Posted by: YeahIdoknowfromexperience | March 02, 2009 at 02:33 PM
The meat on ALL animals begins to rot when the animal is killed. When blood stops flowing to to the muscle (and other) tissue, it starts to deteriorate. That is why slaughterhouse practices are as gruesome as they are is to begin the butchering process immediately after the animal is killed (and hopefully the animal is indeed dead).
Hogs raised for commercial production are not scavengers, and are typically fed high-quality diets. Traditionally, people fed their small-farm, family pigs their 'garbage' -- which was the food on their own dinner tables shortly before.

Well a big reason why people don't eat pork is because the law of Moses forbids it. Pig were literaly put on this earth as garbage desposles. They will eat anything you put in front of them. For instance if you put a dead coarpse in front of a pig it would eat it. They also do not have long enough intestans to digest the toxins they take in so it is stored all through out there body then we eat there flesh and those toxins get into our bodys. P.s. There is also turkey bacon and it is very good and much much healthier for you then pork bacon.

Don't bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.
