» the Little Penguin Shiraz 2003 from Bernie's Bargain Wine Reviews

Grrrrrrrr...I'll get you, Lenn...and your little penguin, too!

Of course now I'll have to get a bottle!

Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am a finalist at Loughborough University, UK, and for my dissertation essay I am investigating into the success of wine packaging, especially the surface graphics on wine bottles. I realise that although the sales of a lot of wine relies on recommendation and taste, I was wondering how important the package design is and how much it contributes to the sale of a wine product. Some eye-catching packaging might entice the customer and persuade them to pick up a certain wine, maybe something different from what they would normally choose.

I just wanted to ask you if you do find that the design of packaging helps to sell wine, as obviously wine manufacturers do tend to update their packaging. Do you find that people are attracted by brightly coloured or innovative designs?
What is the most popular wine that is bought? Does it have successful packaging, or does it rely on other factors for marketing?

I would appreciate it if you would be able to give me any comments regarding this subject. As a designer myself, I am trying to learn about consumer behaviour, and how I can design something that will especially appeal to customers and persuade and influence them to buy that product.

Thankyou, I look forward to hearing from you,

Amy Barclay,
