After a week or so of gorgeous weather (sunny, warm, dry), a storm dumped a lot of rain on Long Island last night.
I'm still trying to find out exactly how much and how much of an impact it is going to have. It was a relatively short storm.
Potentially more worrisome is the cold snap predicted for this weekend.
I'll see what I can find out today, tomorrow and through the weekend. But it's my guess that all of my winery contacts are a bit preoccupied right now. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: Alice Wise at the Cornell Cooperative Extension reports that she got .37 inches in her vineyards.
UPDATE: Richie Pisacano of Roanoke Vineyards and Wolffer Estate reports that he got .5 inch at Roanoke on the North Fork and an inch at Wolffer in the Hamptons. But, he also said "I
UPDATE: Rich Olsen-Harbich at Raphael agrees on the cold snap. He told me "The cold might even be a good thing to help preserve some of the aromatics."





So I take it if I have a special visitor coming soon you'd be the one to ask for tips on what wineries to hit in Long Island.
I hope your friends and contacts out there will make it through the wet weather. I hear it's supposed to be chilly this weekend-is that good or bad for the vines?
