I heard over the weekend that Schneider Vineyard's recently sold their Roanoke Point vineyard, which is predominantly planted with cabernet franc.
I don't have a ton of details, but I was sorry to hear that the buyers have no desire to keep the property planted under vines. Instead they are going to have an equestrian farm and house there instead.
Sad to see any vineyard plantings go, but at least Roanoke Point won't be replaced by condos.

Just when I'm coming to think that maybe Cab Franc is Long Island's niche, with Schnieder as one of its leader, this happens.

Cab Franc still is one of the region's strong suits...though this is a setback to be sure.

Schneiders 94 cab farnc is still my favorite LI wine ever.
Kip Bedell made that wine.
Sad to see the Schneiders go. Glad to see their personal success.
