It's not every day that I find myself quoted not as a blogger but as someone who follows and knows the New York wine industry.
But, it does happen.
The story, in the Itacha Journal, focuses on 'truth in wine labels' when it comes to Finger Lakes wine. You might remember that there was quite a discussion on a previous post about just what grapes go into some wines labeled with the "New York" AVA.

In my opinion, the AVA regulations should be amended to require 100% of the production to be from that area. If the only "chops" an AVA has is in regional purity, then why not take it all the way and remove the 15% issue from the discussion. There are plenty other options that already exist for producers to use on their label if the wines are not 100%. I'd also like to eventually see ingredient labeling on all wines - then the industrial producers will have to lay their cards on the table and we can really start offering some clear consumer choices in the marketplace.
