If my blog buddy WhiteTrashBBQ is to be believed, it certainly isn't at Bobbique in Patchogue. I haven't eaten there yet, so I can't say whether or not I agree.
I've only ever eaten at two other Long Island BBQ joints, Smokin' Al's in Bayshore and Farmer Bar out in wine country.
Of the two, I think I enjoyed Smokin' Al's much more, but Farmer Bar is serviceable for lunch after visiting a winery or two.
But there have got to be other BBQ places on Long Island. So where have you had great 'cue around here?

If I may, the best BBQ in upstate is Dinosaur Barbeque in Syracuse. There is also one in Rochester, but the best part for your downstate folks is that there is also one in the NYC on 131st St.!
It really is amazing BBQ that is supposedly one of the few northern spots that Southern connesuers will praise.
If any of you are ever in Manhattan and are hankering for BBQ, I would recommend giving it a try. Why it's so far uptown, I have no idea, but there you go.

Bobbique is really more of a beer bar with okay food. I'm not overly fond of the menu and usually end up sticking with a liquid diet when going. The best offering they have is the pulled pork sandwich with the brisket.

I'll second the Dinosaur! Actually - no. Better than that -- Brooks in Oneonta. Hands down, best in the state. Come to think of it, I don't know if i've ever eaten at a BBQ place on LI - from what i've seen, the few that exist are more pork than chicken, and I don't eat pork (I know, I know Lenn).
The Dinosaur in NYC is in Harlem, i'm honestly not sure what the area around it is like i've been a bit afraid to find out, i'll admit :(

In NYC I have been to (in chronolical order of favorites) Dallas BBQ (ages ago now I consider it amateur), then Virgils (I thought I was in heaven), then Dinosaur (found a new religion). BTW Harlem is not what movies pretend. You are more likely to have something bad happen to you in Newark at noon than in Harlem at 2 am.
I just tried a new place called Hill Country in Manhattan . It was awesome, but I cannot decide if its better than Dinosaur.

L.I. BBQ? Have you all not heard or been to the party and dinning area of Long Beach. If you have you must be crazy if you have not tried Swingbellys BBQ it is the best. BBQ by the beach is the only way to go.
Try the hot wings...they are huge and a great deal. Everyone and thing is so good.

You can not name Brooks in Oneonta the best around if you do not eat pork. What makes a great place is the holy trinity of bbq. And two of them are pork. If a place fails on these fronts. It is not a great place.

The best BBQ on Long Island is Smokin' Al's in Bay Shore. The best mac & cheese anywhere; in NYC, correctomundo, it's gotta be Dinosaur's in Harlem. And yes, it is biker friendly and very safe. Great service and excellent food.

I dunno. I haven't had great meals at Smokin' Al's in Bay Shore. Everyone seems to love it except me. I like even a chain place like Famous Dave's more. But Smokin' Sloe's in Northport, after a rough start, is starting to win me over. We eat there almost every Friday night and it hasn't disappointed.

a doubt Smokin' Al's in massapequa. Baby-back ribs, baked beans
and homestyle French fries are amazing.

Swingbelly's BBQ in Long Beach is by far my favorite restaurant...Great atmosphere, cool staff, great live music. The Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich with a side of mac'n cheese and sweet fries and peanut butter pie would be my last meal.
