I heard this morning that Schneider Vineyards, just south of Sound Avenue in Riverhead will soon be no more. Bruce Schneider put the property on the market a while back and sold it....but to a couple more interested in raising horses than growing grapes.
So, laborers have started ripping the vines out, which is too bad. I think they were mostly (or all) cabernet franc and syrah.

doh! no more potato barn red!

Bruce sold his Riverhead vineyard but still has a vineyard in Mattituck and is continuing to make wine, both from the Mattituck fruit and from purchasing other North Fork grapes as a negociant. Schneider wines are available at The Tasting Room in Peconic, the sole North Fork tasting location for Schneider Vineyards, Comtesse Therese and Christiano Family Vineyards, plus we carry Sherwood House and Ternhaven, and are looking to add a few more small vineyards. If you are looking for Schneider wines, come on down to The Tasting Room! A lot of the Schneider wines are sold out, but we do have some left, and the new releases will be out very shortly this summer.
