I'm finally getting caught up on all of the notes I've already taken on a slew of New York wines. Here are some quick-hits for wines that for one reason or another won't be the subject of full reviews here on the site.
Bouke 2008 Rose ($16*) Fruity nose of strawberry and raspberry. Very juicy on the palate with strawberry jam and crushed raspberry. Very well balanced. Crisp acidity. Simple but satisfying. Rating: (2.5 out of 5 | Average-to-Very Good)Martha Clara Vineyards 2008 Pinot Grigio ($17*) Austere and dusty on the nose with faint crabapple, green papaya and pithy citrus on the nose. Near-harsh acid on the palate that tastes of underripe fruit. Salty and pithy. Rating: (1.5 out of 5 | Not Recommended-to-Average)
Martha Clara Vineyards 2008 Chardonnay ($14*) A little reduced on the nose with apples, vanilla-cream and oak. Medium bodied and nutty with too much oak for the fruit. Fruit is really lacking here. Rating: (2 out of 5 | Average)
Onabay Vineyards 2007 Chardonnay ($17*) Pear, toasted oak, popcorn and hints of citrus on the nose. Medium-light body with apple, pear, burnt sugar flavors with good acid and some spicy lees character. A little too much toastiness, but not over the top. Rating: (2.5 out of 5 | Average-to-Very Good)
Peconic Bay Winery 2008 Nautique Rose ($16*) Light strawberry and peach aromas with a faint floral note. Lithe strawberry flavors with peach, tangerine and subtle earthiness. Good balance. Tart grapefruit on the finish. Rating: (2.5 out of 5 | Average-to-Very Good)
Windham Vineyards 2008 Riesling ($17*) Simple nose of pears and honey. Lots of honey. Medium-light body with pineapple up front and honeyed pear and lemon-lime flavors beneath. Okay acid, not great. Long, but slightly sweet finish. 1% RS. Rating: (2 out of 5 | Average)
Windham Vineyards 2008 Chardonnay ($15*) Not very aromatic, light nose of crisp apple and lemon. Light body with refreshing, bright acidity, but very austere in terms of flavors. Wish there was a bit more fruit here. Faint leesy note. Rating: (2 out of 5 | Average)Harbes Family 2006 Wagon Wheel Chardonnay ($16*) Ripe, roasted apple on the nose with peach and vanilla spice. Medium-full bodied with very well balanced acid. Ripe tree fruit with creamy vanilla accents and a creamy mid-palate. Finish is a little short, but ends on a clean, fresh note. Rating: (2.5 out of 5 | Average-to-Very Good)
