May is going to be a fun month around here.
For one, Finger Lakes Editor Evan Dawson and I are putting the finish touches on plans for TasteCamp EAST 2010, taking place in the Finger Lakes May 7-9. We've launched the event site and will update it as things are pinned down.
But the fun doesn't begin and end there. Not even close.
New York's two biggest wine regions -- the Finger Lakes and Long Island -- each have variety/wine-style promotions going on throughout May.
In the Finger Lakes, it's "Riesling Month" which means several wineries will be hosting riesling vertical tastings and offering other riesling-themed events and specials during May.
On Long Island, May is "Run for the Roses" month. One dollar from the sale of all rosés (at participating wineries) during this promotion will be donated to CancerCare, a national non-profit offering free social services to individuals with cancer as well as to their family members.
To take part in both regional programs, the New York Cork Report wine reviews for May will focus on R&R -- riesling and rose. We'll be reviewing one rose and one riesling per day (during the week) throughout the month.
It's going to be a fun exploration, and the wines will certainly be seasonally appropriate as the weather warms and local fresh vegetables start showing up at farm stands.
