A full write up is coming next week, but last night I was lucky enough to be a guest of Channing Daughters Winery at Per Se in Manhattan for their latest "American Table" dinner featuring Channing Daughters wines.
I'll get into this more in the forthcoming post, but in many ways, this was a historic moment for New York -- and really East Coast -- wines. It's a big deal that a restaurant of this caliber chose to showcase winemaker Christopher Tracy's wines with its sophisticated, artfully prepared food.
I'm glad I was able to be a part of the event, and that I'll be able to tell you about it as well.

Hmph. Per Se must have a new sommelier since I went. There was a distinct anti-NYS bias then.

Probably depends at least a bit on who you talk to here.
Nathan, the sommelier that joined us for this dinner, said that they have had Channing Daughters wines on the list at Per Se and The French Laundry for some time now and that at times they've had some Dr. Konstantin Frank wines on it as well (the riesling and the Rkatsiteli).

Nope, not when we were there. The sommelier audibly sniffed (seriously!) when we asked about NYS wines. Evidently Keller's vision was too far advanced for the local wine industry. But I'm probably letting my overall disappointment with Per Se color the conversation a bit.
