Their beers ROCK. I don't think I've had a bad one. The "Sierra Nevada" of the East! And that's a compliment.

They do make some really good stuff. Their raspberry porter and raspberry wheat don't do very much for me though.

There has been an interesting question being posed lately. What is the best brewery to open in America since 2000? A lot have answers have included Southern Tier and Captain Lawrence among some California brewerys. Focusing just on New York, it is a great debate.


The top three beers in New York (rated by me, as of what I have reviewed up until today) are either CL or ST. Taking it a bit further, 4 of the top 6, and 5 of the top 8 come from either ST or CL.

What does NYCR nation think? Southern Tier or Captain Lawrence?
