I received a press release from the Long Island Wine Council today about this year's Run for the Roses Festival and wanted to pass it along the list of participating wineries and the specials they are running for the month.
I was disappointed, however to learn that there is no longer a charity component to this program, which raised money for CancerCare last year.
According to Steve Bate, executive director of the Council, "Participating wineries are being asked to contribute to the Wine Council’s marketing funds at the end of the promotion, based on the same formula as in the past: $1 per bottle of rosé sold."
There are some terrific pink wines being made on Long Island and they are worth exploring and drinking all spring, summer and fall.
It's just too bad that a program that used to raise money for a charitable cause is now raising money for the Council.
"Come to Long Island Wine Country this weekend to enjoy our RUN FOR THE ROSÉS FESTIVAL. Throughout the month of May, try our newly released ROSÉ wines, pick your favorites for the summer, and take advantage of SPECIAL OFFERS at participating Long Island wineries and partner businesses...
